"Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final." — Rainer Maria Rilke
The Sturgeon Moon – 28th August
August’s Full Moon is called the Sturgeon Moon, reaching fullness at 5:18am BST on Friday 28th August. The name comes from the abundance of sturgeon once caught in the Great Lakes at this time of year.
This year it arrives with something rarer: a partial lunar eclipse, visible from the UK. The partial eclipse begins at 4:12am and reaches its peak at 5:12am, when almost 94% of the Moon sits within Earth’s shadow. Here in the south of England, the Moon sets before the eclipse is completely over.
Gate 59 — Intimacy
As the Sturgeon Moon fills, the Sun illuminates Gate 59 in Human Design, known as Intimacy, or sometimes Dispersion. Its genetic strategy is sexuality, but the deeper territory is broader than that word suggests: what allows us to be properly known by another person?
Gate 59 carries the drive to dissolve the barriers that keep us apart, to connect beyond the surface, to create the kind of openness where real closeness becomes possible. We each arrived in the world through an act of human intimacy and something in this Gate remembers that.
The shadow is dishonesty, the small and large ways we protect ourselves by not quite telling the truth of who we are. The gift is intimacy itself; connection built on honesty rather than performance. At its highest expression, this energy becomes transparency, a state where nothing needs hiding because nothing is being judged.
Line 6, Being Discerning, tempers this teaching beautifully. It says that not every barrier needs dissolving. Over time, we develop a real sense of how, when, and with whom our intimacy is safe. Discernment isn’t the opposite of intimacy. It’s what makes intimacy trustworthy.
The dilemma is trauma, the fear that comes from an old wound opening again. Many of us learned caution here for good reason, and Gate 59 doesn’t ask us to override that wisdom. It asks us to keep choosing where closeness might still be possible.
Bottle 59 / G8 — Illumination
The Colour Mirrors system meets this energy through Bottle G8, Illumination, deep magenta layered on deep magenta. It’s the darkest bottle in the entire range, and deliberately so.
This bottle supports a journey into the heart of your own subconscious darkness, not to frighten you but to help you feel the warmth that’s there. It’s the void, the place of dreams, the moment just before sleep takes you. It’s called Illumination because it’s only by entering the darkness and meeting it without flinching that you find your way back into the light.
G8 also works directly with what we inherit: the physical, emotional and generational patterns passed down before we had any choice in the matter. It helps clear the judgements we’ve been carrying about our own bodies, and the patterns of the past that keep repeating simply because nobody has looked at them directly yet. Once something has been properly seen, it loses its grip on our future.
Gate 59 asks what allows us to be known. Bottle G8 answers: honesty with your own darkness first. Once you can be transparent with yourself, in the places that feel most unspeakable, you become free to create rather than repeat, consciously rather than by default.
Working with September's Energy
The month ahead brings together three threads: the temporary shadow of an eclipse, the discernment of Gate 59, and Bottle G8’s work with what we inherit. Together they offer an invitation to look honestly at what’s shaped you and decide, consciously, what you want to carry forward.
- What have you kept hidden because you once believed it made you less acceptable
- Which patterns feel inherited rather than chosen, and are they still serving you?
- Where does a boundary protect something precious, and where has it become a barrier to closeness instead?
Book Corner
My recommendation this month is The Inside Track by Peter Sage. It’s based on eleven letters he wrote to his coaching clients whilst serving an unexpected six-month sentence, a masterclass in facing profoundly difficult circumstances from a place of power rather than force.
Sage didn’t get to choose the darkness he was handed. He got to choose what he did once inside it, which is precisely G8’s invitation: not to avoid the shadow, but to meet it consciously and let it become the place you create from.

Final Thoughts
Perhaps the deepest invitation this month is not to expose everything, resolve everything or even understand everything. It is simply to become a little more willing to see ourselves clearly — darkness as well as light — and to discover that being fully ourselves may be less dangerous than we once believed.
With love and in gratitude,
