Abundant Depths, Shared Purpose

"We are all just walking each other home."
Ram Dass

I had a hissy fit on Sunday evening—a full-blown, slam-the-door kind of explosion that sent our poor dog scurrying into the garden for a full hour to recover. As the dust settled on Monday morning, I found myself asking: why didn’t I speak up before reaching that breaking point?

Chief among the many answers is recognising that Sunday’s trigger was simply the straw that broke the camel’s back. I had noticed something amiss earlier but chose to ignore it, decided it wasn’t that important, figured it wasn’t the right time to address it and so on. The usual dance of avoidance we all know so well—it’s easier to let things slide until suddenly it isn’t anymore.

Perhaps it was the approaching Lion’s Gate energy and this Aquarius Full Moon stirring up that delicate balance between honouring our individual needs and maintaining harmony with those around us. Sometimes our inner wisdom speaks through outbursts when we’ve ignored its whispers for too long.

The Sturgeon Moon - 9th August

This morning’s Full Moon carries the name of the Sturgeon Moon—honouring the Native American tradition that celebrated the seasonal abundance of these ancient fish. At 8:55 AM BST, this moon reaches its peak in Aquarius, opposite the Sun in Leo, offering us a profound teaching about how individual brilliance serves collective purpose.

The sturgeon remains a perfect metaphor for this lunar energy. These remarkable creatures live for over a century, swimming vast distances and traversing both fresh and salt water—much like how Aquarius energy bridges personal insight and communal contribution. They remind us that true abundance doesn’t come from clinging or accumulating, but from trusting the wider web we belong to and allowing ourselves to move fluidly between different environments and communities.

This Aquarius Full Moon invites us into reflection on collective purpose, social harmony, and shared vision. It asks the essential question: How can we hold both our individuality and our place within the whole? Where Leo shines from the heart with passionate self-expression, Aquarius illuminates from the mind— offering clarity around systems, relationships, and future pathways that serve everyone involved.

Today also marks Raksha Bandhan in Hindu tradition—a beautiful celebration of the protective bonds between siblings. Traditionally, sisters tie sacred threads around their brothers’ wrists, creating visible symbols of invisible connections. This festival speaks to something this Aquarius moon understands deeply: that real security comes not from what we can grasp individually, but from the network of care and commitment that sustains us all.

This is also a moon of emotional perspective — offering a chance to see your life, relationships, and intentions from a higher vantage point. Not from detachment in the cold sense, but from discernment rooted in care. Aquarius, after all, is not unemotional; it simply asks us to bring our emotions into dialogue with wisdom, allowing both heart and mind to inform our choices.

Exploring Sun and Moon Alignment

As this moon reaches fullness, the sun illuminates Gate 7 — Uniformity: Finding Common Intent. This gate holds one of humanity’s most essential teachings: that moving forward in life becomes possible through establishing genuine agreement and promoting shared interests among those involved.

Yet how often do we exhaust ourselves trying to force our individual will upon circumstances, relationships, or communities that aren’t ready to receive it?

Gate 7 suggests a different path—one that moves from autocracy through democracy toward meritocracy. Not through force, but through finding what genuinely serves everyone involved. Its shadow is division—that exhausting pattern where we fragment into opposing camps, losing sight of our shared humanity. The gift is guidance—discovering that real leadership comes from helping others see what they already know to be true.

Line 5 — Directing cuts straight to the heart of authentic authority: The confidence and ability to instruct others in the needs of the moment. True direction isn’t about having all the answers; it’s about being clear in your communication when clarity is most needed.

This is particularly relevant as we navigate the ongoing Mercury retrograde period until August 11th. Sometimes the most helpful guidance we can offer is the patience to let understanding emerge naturally rather than pushing for premature resolution.

The Depths of Trust

In the Colour Mirrors system, Bottle 7 Neptune (Turquoise/Deep Turquoise) invites us into the profound mystery of faith itself. Named for the planet, Neptune is also the Roman god of the sea and this bottle speaks to those who naturally navigate the depths of human experience—the intuitive ones who hear others’ troubles and bring peace to suffering souls.

Turquoise carries the energy of heartfelt communication, faith and flow. If this bottle calls to you, you likely find yourself in the role of confidant and peace-bringer, sensing what others need before they can articulate it themselves. You have a gift for seeing through surface turbulence to the deeper currents that move beneath.

Yet this bottle also recognises a common pattern: those who help others navigate their depths often carry their own burdens alone. You may find it challenging to share your own secrets, your own struggles, your own need for support. This bottle whispers a gentle reminder: you too deserve the care you so readily offer others.

This is a time to trust that miracles can happen and that you are on the brink of something wonderful. The phrase “trust the process—it works” isn’t spiritual bypassing; it’s recognition that some things can only unfold in their own time, through their own mysterious logic.

There’s beautiful synchronicity between Gate 7’s teaching about common intent, Bottle 7’s invitation to trust the depths, and this Sturgeon Moon’s gift of abundant patience. Each asks us to move beyond surface strategies and connect with what genuinely serves the whole—including ourselves.

Working with the Sturgeon Moon's Energy

This moon calls for practices that honour both abundance and depth. Here’s how you might work with its energy: –

Practice abundance recognition: Take inventory not of what you lack, but of the wealth already present in your life—relationships, experiences, wisdom, creativity. Like the Native Americans who recognised the sturgeon’s seasonal gift, notice what’s already here to sustain you.

Strengthen your bonds: Reach out to someone who has supported you, offering gratitude or assistance in return. Create your own version of Raksha Bandhan by acknowledging the protective relationships in your life.

Trust the deeper currents: With Mercury still retrograde until August 11th, this is perfect timing for allowing understanding to emerge rather than forcing decisions. What wants to surface naturally in your awareness?

Share your depths selectively: If you’re someone who typically carries others’ burdens, consider sharing one small truth about your own experience with someone you trust. Sometimes the most radical act is accepting support.

Book Corner

This month I’m sharing a rather whimsical book that gently holds all the themes we’ve been exploring: The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. Charlie Mackesy’s tender illustrations and simple wisdom offer comfort for anyone navigating life’s deeper currents.

This beautiful book follows an unlikely friendship between four characters as they journey together, each offering their own gifts and vulnerabilities. The conversations between them are deceptively simple yet touch on some of life’s most essential questions about belonging, courage, and what it means to truly support one another.

Mackesy’s tender approach shows us that sometimes the most profound guidance comes through presence rather than answers, and that real abundance lies in the connections that sustain us through uncertainty.

“The spiritual journey is one of constant transformation. In order to grow, you must give up the struggle to remain the same, and learn to embrace change at all times.”

What I find particularly relevant to this month’s themes is Singer’s exploration of how we can remain open to life’s experiences without being thrown off-balance by them. This speaks directly to Gate 53’s teaching about finding agility under pressure and Bottle G2’s gift of helping us feel genuinely at home on earth, even when everything around us is shifting.

Final Thoughts

As we move through these final weeks of summer, I’m struck by how often we’re called to choose between forcing our way forward and trusting the deeper intelligence that guides natural timing. The Sturgeon Moon reminds us that true abundance often comes through patience—allowing relationships to deepen, projects to mature, understanding to emerge.

The Lion’s Gate Portal energy peaking around August 8th adds an extra layer of creative potential to this time. Notice what wants to be birthed through you, what dreams are ready to take form, what connections are deepening into lasting support.

I’d love to hear how you’re experiencing this season of abundant depths. What relationships are providing unexpected support? What deeper currents are you learning to trust?

With grace and in gratitude,
